THE IDEA

At the heart of the Halfway Club is our love of Midwestern dives, neighborhood taverns and classic supper clubs. Our goal is to combine that warm, familiar feeling with design elements taken from years working in fine dining restaurants in San Francisco. The Halfway Club will have an atmosphere that’s both vintage and modern, worn-in but clean, cozy yet lively. Keeping in mind the twin goals of providing both stellar service and fun drives the inspiration for our business.

Dark wood paneling warmed by soft orange light, a meticulously curated 45 jukebox and a small museum of cocktail and breweriana antiques encourage guests to stay for a few extra rounds. At the bar, our extensive whisk(e)y list can be perused by the overhead glow of vintage swag lamps, or perhaps by the ambient incandescent light of a “Shlitz” beer sign from yesteryear. We intend to take the idea of a 70’s dad’s basement bar and bring it to the Excelsior.

Whether it’s making a delicious cocktail while serving it quickly and without attitude, or offering the best local, small production beers alongside cans of Old Style, we strive to replace pretense with approachability. The spectrum of our careers and life experience will be reflected in our service, food and drink selections and in the name of the establishment; The Halfway Club.
